Leadership as an activity, not a position

Leadership Is Tricky LLC was founded in 2019 as a platform to share what it actually looks like to exercise formal and informal leadership, across a broad and diverse audience. It's grown out of one belief: that leadership is something you do for the people around you, not a title you hold over them.

That belief comes from working inside the U.S. Department of Defense and national security innovation space, where the work is mentoring and investing in the pipeline of talent coming up behind you — recognized in 2026 as one of the "Difference Makers: Top 100 Defense Innovators."

Today that same approach shapes every coaching session, workshop, and consultation: practical, direct, and built around growing the people who will lead after you.
